Garton’s Glucose factory was located on Battersea’s riverside from the 1880s. The source of the infamous ‘Battersea smell’, it was also the site of a tragic accident in 1899.

WHAT WE DO
We are a small but active group of historians and artists who work to spread knowledge and understanding of Battersea’s fascinating history. In connecting people to a common past, heritage provides a sense of rootedness and identity, of place and understanding.
Members of the Heritage Committee are involved in a wide range of activities which aim to celebrate the people, places and events of Battersea’s past.
